The General retention and disposal authority: administrative records (GA28) identifies common and general administrative records created and maintained by NSW public offices which are required as State archives, and provides approval for the destruction of other records after minimum retention periods have been met.

It applies to records created and maintained by NSW public offices since 1940.

It was approved on 25 June 2007 and revised in 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, March 2024 and July 2024. Details of these amendments (including which entries replace GDA8 and GDA11) and advice on implementation of the authority are contained within the PDF version of GA28 below.

State Records NSW is seeking feedback on proposed amendments to GA28.  Feedback is requested by 8 November and can be emailed to govrec@staterecords.nsw.gov.au.
