We offer a number of free online training modules on records management and recordkeeping in the NSW public sector.

The courses are in HTML and can be viewed by standard browsers. We recommend that, where possible, you use the latest version of Google Chrome. If you have any difficulties in accessing the modules or if you have suggestions for further online courses please contact us.

This online module assists all staff in the organisation to understand their broad responsibilities for managing email, particularly email messages that need to be saved and kept as records. It is designed to be used in conjunction with an organisation’s specific policies, procedures and business rules on email management.

Briefing sessions and workshops

Occasionally NSW State Archives and Records offers briefing sessions and workshops on various topics, such as recordkeeping and business systems.
Those interested in briefings or workshops are encouraged to subscribe to our newsletter, For the Record, or to attend our Records Managers’ Forums. These are two ways we regularly communicate with clients regarding new developments and training opportunities.

Terms and conditions for "Recordkeeping and you" module

The "Recordkeeping and you" module has slightly different terms and conditions as copyright for the majority of content rests with the National Archives of Australia. The NAA has agreed to allow NSW public offices to use, adapt or modify the online modules to suit their needs providing the following conditions are met:

  • the existing, adapted or modified content is not used for commercial purposes or for sale, such as training for a fee
  • use of modification of National Archives' material is fully acknowledged
  • the module will not be provided to a third party.

State Records NSW also requires that:

  • any adaptations or modifications do not change the meaning or intent of the content
  • any adaptations or modifications remain in keeping with best practice and NSW Government policy as articulated by NSW State Archives and Records standards and guidelines.

Customisation

If a NSW public office wishes to customise these modules for their particular needs (e.g. to refer to organisational policy and guidelines) they will need to:

  • have an online training package that is SCORM or AICC compliant
  • contact us to obtain the module in a suitable modifiable format.

Please note: State Records NSW provides the available course content only and will not undertake any customisation of modules for organisations.

State Records NSW will keep the modules available on the e-learning page as up-to-date as resources allow. Organisations are responsible for monitoring changes to these modules and keeping their own versions up-to-date.

Tracking usage

We do not track usage of our online modules beyond keeping statistics at an aggregated level.
